Spring has officially sprung and the weather was perfect for a round of nine hole golf action at Oakdale’s Golf and Country Club on Tuesday afternoon, April 8. Oakdale High School golfers welcomed Lathrop to town for a Valley Oak League match. The Mustangs found their stroke as they defeated Lathrop with a score of 248-289.

Mustangs Josh Barrera and Domenic Fauria found their way to top of the leader board at the end of the day as both shot an impressive 48. Their teammates were not too far off, as Logan Schultz was only two strokes behind with a score of 50 and both Austin Steves and a newcomer to the team, Jacob Wakish, each turned in a score card of 51. Dante Martin wrapped up his day with a respectable 55 to cap off the afternoon for Oakdale.

“My mindset heading into today was to try and stay on the fairway as much as possible. I wanted to come out here and do my best for my teammates and coach,” shared Wakish, a junior who played his first match for OHS.

Lathrop’s low scorer, Sam Fallon, shot a 50 on the day.

OHS returned to action to take on Kimball, at Tracy’s Old River Golf Course on Thursday, April 10. The Mustangs continued to play well and tamed the Jaguars, 219-238. Barrera once again found his way on top as he shot a 37 on the par 36 course. Steves and Fauria both turned in a score of 44 with teammates Schultz and Zackary Tamburrino contributing with a score of 47 apiece. Martin rounded out the squad scoring with 56.

Oakdale was slated to return to the links on Tuesday, April 15 as they traveled to Manteca Park Golf Course to take on East Union and will be back at Oakdale Golf and Country Club to host Sonora on Thursday, April 17 before heading into Spring Break.
