The boys water polo team earned a pair of Valley Oak League victories this past week. On Tuesday, Oct. 17 the boys hosted Bret Harte and earned a 16-5 home win over the Bullfrogs. Oakdale scored seven quick goals to go up 7-0 after the first quarter. Aron Cameron and Caden Nord scored five goals each. David Hill and Ethan Perry scored two goals each and Brendan McAnally and Dakota McNeil each tossed in one goal.

The team also knocked off Kimball on Thursday, Oct. 19.

Oakdale hosted Sonora on Tuesday, Oct. 24 following The Leader press time. This was also Senior Night 2017 for the program.

As for the girls, it was a much different week. The team crafted its 59th consecutive league win on Tuesday night at home against Bret Harte 15-4 with contributions from multiple players.

However, the nearly eight-season perfect streak came to a halt at the hands of the Kimball Jaguars on Thursday, Oct. 19. Oakdale’s offense struggled as they fell 8-2 on the road.

The team’s last Valley Oak League loss came in 2009.

“I have been incredibly lucky to coach a group of girls over the past eight seasons that have continued to set the bar higher and higher each year,” coach Diane Kline said.

Scoring in that game for Oakdale were Whitney Lee and Neesa DeLeon.

“This year’s team has worked as hard as any other (past team), and in many respects harder because the pressure continues to grow with each season to be undefeated again,” Coach Kline said of the streak.

Oakdale looked to get back to their winning ways on Tuesday, Oct. 24 when they hosted Sonora for Senior Night 2017.
