Four of the Oakdale High School Mustang varsity baseball players have been named all-stars. Jacob Solorio, Dylan Wright, Alex Daoud and Max Moore have been selected to play in the 29th Annual High School All-Star Baseball Classic. The game is put on by the Modesto Sunrise Rotary and will be played on Saturday, June 9 at Stanislaus State Baseball Field in Turlock.
Solorio, who was a utility player for the Mustangs, just completed his junior year. He batted .487 with 15 runs batted in and hit three home runs. Solorio was recognized as the Valley Oak League’s Offensive Player of the Year and also took home the same award during the Mustangs end of the year team awards ceremony.
Third baseman Wright has completed his final days as a Mustang but will represent the team one last time in the all-star game. Wright batted .367 with 17 RBI on the top VOL infielders. Wright was also named the Mustangs Most Valuable Player of the Year.
Junior Alex Daoud is a shortstop with both arm strength and speed. During the season he played in 27 games and batted .396 with 19 RBI. Once on base, pitchers had a hard time preventing him from stealing as Daoud had nine steals on the year. He earned honorable mention from the Valley Oak League and was named the 2018 Mustang Award recipient.
Catcher Max Moore turned in an impressive 2018 season with both his defensive and offensive skills. As a catcher Moore had 139 putouts. He played in 28 games where he had a sizzling batting average of .400 and brought in 22 runs. The catcher had just two errors on the season. Moore won the Defensive Player of the Year Award for his team and was also honored as Catcher of the Year by the Valley Oak League.
The four players will be suiting up for the Gold team along with players from Beyer, Hughson, Waterford, Turlock, Gregori, Turlock Christian, Patterson, Ceres and Johansen. They will be taking on the Blue team with players from Modesto, Big Valley, Riverbank, Modesto Christian, Central Valley, Enochs, Pitman, Oresimba, Downey and Central Catholic.
Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.; gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the pre-game ceremonies start at 6:30 p.m.
