Football Mustangs Named As All-League Selections

The 2017 season has come to a close for the Oakdale Mustangs varsity football team. Although it came to an end short of the Sac-Joaquin Section title, the team did win the Valley Oak League by sweeping the other seven teams within it. Having accomplished this, the league noticed the efforts of the team and honored numerous members of the varsity squad.

Earning first team All-VOL honors on the offensive side of the ball were Quarterback Marc Dixon, Center Jorge Barajas, Wide Receiver Hunter Falconi, Running Backs/Fullbacks Josh Jacobson and Cameron Cherry, Offensive Linemen Connor Reed and Kyle Seese. Offensive Tackle Nico Sarale was named one of three Outstanding Offensive Players for the league.

Named to top honors on the defensive side of the ball were Inside Linebacker Zac Campbell, Outside Linebacker Jace Krick, Defensive Linemen Matt Kjeldgaard, Levi Ichord and Safety/Defensive Back Bronson Harmon. Second Team All VOL recognition went to Defensive Lineman Junior Rodin.

Making waves on special teams was Place Kicker Nate Richardson, who was named All VOL First Team.

Taking home Honorable Mention were Thomas Wood, Mikai Harris, CJ Toledo, Gustavo Gutierrez and Corey Hinojosa.

Oakdale’s head coach of 17 seasons, Trent Merzon, was named VOL Coach of the Year.
