End Of The Year Banquet, Awards For Softball Girls

A large group of fans, family members, coaches and players gathered at the Gene Bianchi Community Center on Thursday, May 11 to honor the Oakdale High School softball programs.

Varsity head coach Larry Loger began the night with his thank you’s to the parents, coaches, players and fans for all of their hard work and sacrifices that went into the season. Following the meal that was prepared by John and Brett Word, Loger hit the microphone again and thanked the Oakdale Baseball Softball Association for their contributions to the season.

Junior Varsity Coach Karla Alvarez hit the podium and handed out the first awards of the evening. They included Emily Smith for Best Offense, the Most Improved Player Award went to Paige Morgan, Best Defensive Player was awarded to Camryn O’Neal and the final JV honor went to Cortney Koelmans for the Coach’s Award.

The varsity team saw four awards presented by Coach Loger to end the evening. Best Offense was awarded to two players, Lexi Webb and Grace Green. Britney Bye took home the Best Defense Award for her work as a shortstop. Most Improved was earned by Farrah Gomes, and Dakota Gray was voted unanimously by the coaching staff for the Coach’s Award for her leadership, personality and play.

That same night, the Valley Oak League named its first and second team honors. Making the All-VOL first team were Lexi Webb, Grace Green and Maddy Brewer. Webb and Green were the top vote getters in the league. Making the second team All-VOL were Shay Trent and Brittany Bye.
