Oakdale High wrestlers were clutch when it mattered most during late February’s Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Championships at the Stockton Arena.
Oakdale’s run to a first place title was largely due to a 5-1 stanza against Vacaville (second place) wrestlers in head to head matches.
And no win better sounded off the Oakdale dominance than in the 171-pound finale, where Mustang senior Trent Noon helped clinch the SJS banner with a 6-2 upset of highly touted Hudson Buck.
Noon’s late aggression and complete third round supremacy earns him an Athlete of the Week nod from The Leader.
His win was the biggest in a two-day affair that saw Oakdale nab its first SJS all-division title since 1964 and secure a school record nine advancements to the state meet.
Noon and his teammates took on the state field in Bakersfield this past weekend.
