Athlete Of The Week - Meche Brown
June 1, 2011
0601 AOW Oak
Qualifying for one event of the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Track and Field Championships is extremely difficult. Qualifying for four of them is just plain silly.
Oakdale sophomore Me’che Brown did just that last week after superb performances in the 400 meter relay, 1600 relay, 200 and 100.
She joined three Oakdale runners for a new school record in the 400 relay to take second overall at the SJS D-IV championships. She also ran a new season best with the 1600 relay, and set personal records in the 200 (third) and 100 (fourth) to qualify for Masters in all of her races.
She earns Athlete of the Week honor from The Leader for her efforts.
Brown’s marks propelled her to an appearance in all events at the two-day Masters Trials and Finals last week. Her big postseason is a terrific accomplishment for any prep athlete, no less a sophomore.
The talented runner has big races ahead.
