Suiting up for a pair of Valley Oak League games this past week, the Oakdale High School varsity girls basketball team played both at home and on the road. Oakdale (13-9, 1-5) lost a road game at Weston Ranch (9-11, 2-4) and also fell at home to first place Kimball (17-3, 6-0).

Following a 73-66 road loss to the Cougars, a game where Grace Higle scored a game high 22 points and Alicia Platt added 17 points, the varsity Lady Mustangs hosted unbeaten Kimball on Friday night. The girls started the game off with a 12-6 advantage but three straight turnovers by the host squad allowed the Jaguars to tie the game at 12 with 2:48 remaining in the first quarter. Oakdale entered the second quarter up 19-18. A three point field goal by Kayden Legan put Oakdale up 22-20 with 6:43 left in the half.

The seesaw battle continued as the game was tied at 33 with 1:32 remaining in the half, and Kimball took a 35-33 halftime lead.

The visiting Jaguars led 40-34 but a three point shot by Platt trimmed the deficit down to 40-37 with 5:55 remaining in the third quarter. Oakdale only scored a total of eight points in that third quarter and entered the fourth down by 10, 51-41. The Lady Mustangs could not keep up the Jaguars pace of play in the second half and were outscored 16-10 in the fourth quarter.

Higle scored 24 points for Oakdale in the loss and Platt and Legan scored 11 and 10 respectively. The Lady Mustangs have a pair of home games this week beginning with Manteca (14-7, 5-1) on Wednesday, Jan. 23 and Friday night the team will host East Union (13-7, 4-2). Tipoff for both games is scheduled for 7 p.m.
