Hatler Tournament Efforts Result In Wrestling Championships

Over a half dozen Oakdale High School wrestlers earned championship honors at the 44th annual Robert Hatler Memorial Tournament this past weekend. The annual wrestling event was hosted at Sonora High School and multiple Mustang wrestlers earned top honors by the time the event wrapped up Saturday, Jan. 18.

Logan Thomas (109); Alan Casey and Colton Silva (115); Brayden Abell (122); Jonathan Hernandez (128); Jack Hopkins and Noah Day (135); Payne Perkins (147); Alex Jones and Chris Burns (154); and Omar Perez (285) were all crowned champions and co-champs.

The wrestlers battled their way through their respective brackets in the prestigious tournament. Oakdale did not let up on their competition as the wrestlers ended many of their matches within the first period.

In girls action, Valerie Osborne earned first place honors at the Lady Chukchansi Invitational. Osborne wrestled three times on Saturday to claim the title. This event took place in Madera at Madera South High School.

Oakdale now gears up for the 2020 State Duals at Clovis North this weekend. Wrestling action is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25.

In Valley Oakdale League action on Wednesday, Jan. 29 the boys will travel to Modesto for a showdown at Central Catholic. This will be the final regular season dual before the postseason begins on Feb. 1 for the Section Duals at Lincoln High School in Stockton. That event is scheduled for 9 a.m.
