Gators Compete, Splash Down For Swim-A-Thon

The Oakdale youth swim team swam at Merrill F. West High School in Tracy for another road meet this summer. Swimmers from the ages of eight to fourteen hit the pool. The following swimmers placed fifth place or higher in their respectable events. Names are spelled as provided.

 

FEMALE 8 AND UNDER

Ocean Ingram swam in three events and she placed fourth in the 25 yard butterfly event.

 

MALE 8 AND UNDER

Thomas Keeler placed first in all three of his events. He earned top honors in the 25 yard freestyle, 25 yard backstroke and the 50 yard freestyle event.

 

FEMALE 9-10

Charlee Birdsong placed fourth in the 100 yard freestyle and took fifth in the 50 yard butterfly. Saphyre Garcia earned a fifth place finish in the 100 yard freestyle. Maile Poling earned a second place finish in the 100 yard IM and took third in the 50 yard butterfly.

 

MALE 9-10

Hayden Koehler placed fourth in the 50 yard backstroke and fifth in the 50 yard freestyle. Owen Reynolds swam in six events and earned a third place finish in the 50 yard butterfly and fifth in the 100 IM. Joseph Yakligian placed third in the 50 yard backstroke and took fifth in the 100 yard freestyle.

 

FEMALE 11-12

Angelica Elizondo had a busy day. She earned third in the 100 IM event and placed fourth in the 50 yard backstroke event. She also took fifth in both the 50 yard butterfly event and the 100 yard freestyle. Noemi Verduzco placed third in the 50 yard butterfly event.

 

MALE 11-12

Tyler Mercer swam in six events and placed in the top five in five of them. He placed first in the 100 yard freestyle. Mercer also took second in the 50 yard backstroke, third in both the 100 yard IM and the 50 yard butterfly. He ended his day with a fourth place finish in the 50 yard freestyle.

 

FEMALE 13 AND OVER

Jordyn Pope had a productive day as she placed in the top five in all four of her events. Pope earned a pair of third place finishes in 100 yard IM and the 100 yard freestyle. She also took fourth in the 100 yard backstroke and placed fifth in the 50 yard freestyle.

Micaiah Richison earned a pair of second place finishes in the 100 yard IM and the 100 yard butterfly events. She also took third in the 100 yard backstroke.

 

Saturday, July 28 the Gators are scheduled to swim at Oakdale High School for their lone home meet of the season, welcoming several other teams to town for the multi-team meet.

Meanwhile, with the summer sun beating down, youngsters hit the pool for the annual Gators Swim-a-Thon on Friday, July 20. Kids swam a total of 8,948 laps inside the Oakdale High School Aquatic Center. The kids each pledged to swim a certain amount of laps in the pool for the fundraiser. A total of 223,700 yards were swam or 127.10 miles. Over $10,000 was raised. Coaches and volunteers helped keep track of the swimmers’ progress.
