Big Fourth Quarter Lifts Varsity Girl Hoopsters

Entering the fourth quarter tied at 35, the Oakdale High School varsity girls basketball team outscored Downey 18-8 in the final frame for a thrilling 53-43 road win. The non-conference game took place on Dec. 16 and with the victory, Oakdale improved to 9-1 on the season.

Taking a 10-8 after the first quarter, the varsity girls had a slim 22-21 lead at halftime. Helping power the Lady Mustangs was Alicia Platt, who led all scorers with 18 points. Platt went 6-for-20 from the field and added six rebounds. Aiden Hill added 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Hill was on point from long distance as she connected on 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Hill also had five assists. Afton Dailey scored eight points in the win.

This was Oakdale’s fourth consecutive victory and next they will be playing at Hughson on New Year’s Eve with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m.

In junior varsity action Oakdale took care of Downey 54-23. Kassidy Fmura had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Leading all scorers was Halena Hill with 17 points and she also added six assists. Savannah Borba had a dozen points while Alivia Antinetti had eight points and collected 10 steals.

“Our team is doing a great job playing as a team and sharing the ball, they are also playing great defense,” said coach Cheri Martin.

The Oakdale JV girls are now 8-2 on the season.

For the freshman girls they improved to 7-3 on the year following their 49-11 victory over Downey. Jennifer Castro scored 14 points and Riley Jones added 10 in the win.
