Cloverland Offers Opportunities

Dear Editor,

Cloverland Elementary School is like a treasure chest filled with gems of opportunities for learning and volunteering. I’m excited to share some of the treasured opportunities available.

In this “School Community That Builds Character-Perseverance-Academics” for “The Foundation of a Great Future!” we find a “family” of extremely dedicated professionals supported by a large, enthusiastic group of volunteers working together with respect and value.

Cloverland’s Art Corps Program is a volunteer hands-on art instruction program, which for 16 years has allowed active “in classroom” volunteer groups to provide hundreds of K-6 students an appreciation and exposure to art fundamentals. Hundreds of smiles as students view their masterpieces at the May 6th-7th Art Show will demonstrate the program’s value.

Community volunteers and guest speakers are welcomed into classrooms by teachers to enrich the teaching curriculum.

Since 2015/16 enthusiastic Cloverland’s Science Olympiad Teams and Coach Jon Blanc have participated in the County completion. The first year they placed 18th; next 16th; then seventh; last year placing third in the County Science Olympiad completion. Congrats! Great teamwork!

Last year Cloverland’s “Former Student Scholarship” was established and awarded to OHS Grads. Friends of Cloverland donations entirely fund this OJUSD Scholarship. Applicants expressed various impactful Cloverland experiences.

Future doctors shared about valuable experiences: G.A.T.E., science fair, band, valuable life lessons, hands-on opportunity to dissect a sheep’s brain in fifth grade and wonderful role-model teachers.

A future teacher shared about being a friend to the friendless. A future almond farm business partner shared about never giving up on your dreams and making opportunities for yourself.

This scholarship was established to honor Cloverland’s Alumni and our School Community. I can’t think of a better community to belong to than Cloverland’s … with all the treasured gems of opportunities.

With Cloverland Cougars Pride,

Volunteer Phyllis Bordona
