League Seeks To Inform

Dear Editor,

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation of citizens in government. It was founded in 1920 as a direct outgrowth of the 72-year struggle for women to gain the vote. Membership is open to all citizens, men as well as women. The League provides and promotes services and education for voters, advocacy, and public policy by registering citizens to vote, defending voter rights, monitoring government activities from city councils to the U.S. Congress, educating citizens about their rights and responsibilities, sponsoring candidates’ and public issues’ forums, taking positions on issues based on in-depth studies, informing citizens through in-depth and balanced issues’ analyses.

It is important to remember that the League never supports a political party or a candidate, the League never mixes citizen education and advocacy.

For more information, contact League of Women Voters of Stanislaus County, P.O. Box E, Modesto, CA 95352 or visit http://www.lwvstanislaus.org.
