Dear Editor,

Since the week of October 18-24 is National Friends of Libraries Week, I would like to thank the Friends of the Oakdale Library for their many contributions toward our local library service. The members of this organization raise funds every year to increase the number of new books available at the Oakdale Library. With more than 10,000 books checked out every month at the Oakdale Library, we know there are many local readers relying on the library for their books. Since it’s not easy to have enough new books for all our readers, the help of the Friends of the Oakdale Library is greatly appreciated. In addition to augmenting the library’s book collection, the Friends have also added new seating in the teen and children’s areas and provided performers for the children’s summer reading program. Their contributions in less than a year have been over $3,600! On behalf of the staff and the many library users of the Oakdale Library, I would like to thank the members of the Friends of the Oakdale Library. Anyone interested in joining this worthy organization can find application forms at the Oakdale Library.
