Robert Joseph “Bob” Fraga, 73, died Friday, Feb. 26 in Fremont surrounded by his wife, daughters and grandchildren. He had recovered from esophageal cancer surgery in February 2007 but suffered recurrent health issues in 2009 and passed away following an 11-week series of treatment and surgeries at Stanford Hospital.

He was a longtime resident of Fremont, and retired with his wife Sandy to Oakdale in 2000.

In his youth, he met his wife prior to joining the Navy. Following four years of service, he returned to the Bay Area where they married in 1959.

Mr. Fraga found his avocation when he accepted his appointment with State Farm Insurance in 1969. He was a leader in his field, earning travel incentives every year of his insurance career. As a result, he and his wife traveled the world together.

He enjoyed travel, gardening, his vacation home in Groveland, and the game of golf. He drew great joy from talking with and visiting his many friends and gathering with his extended family. He was a dedicated Christian.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Oakdale; daughters, Lynette (Ed) Fraga-Weems of Fremont, Janet (Rory) Collins of Brownsburg, IN, Tammy Fraga of Oakdale, and Sheri Fraga of Livermore; brothers, Dennis Fraga and Johnny Fraga; grandchildren Eddie, Joey, Tommy and Kelsey Weems, Sam and Gabrielle Collins, Taylor and Leah Partenheimer, and Brittney, Megan and Karlie Daubert.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Fraga of San Leandro.

A celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 11 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 38451 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, followed by a reception.
