Marla was born in Los Angeles on Dec. 1, 1926. She graduated from Hollywood High School and attended college until her marriage to Raymond Malby, her high school sweetheart. They spent their first year together working at Yosemite National Park, tending the Glacier Point Hotel and were responsible for creating the nightly fire fall.
They returned to Los Angeles until 1963, when they moved to Lake Almanor to raise their family. Marla enjoyed volunteer work. In Los Angeles, she was a docent at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She later volunteered at the Carson City Museum, the Ashland Shakespearean Festival, The Oakdale Museum, and for Oakdale Friends of the Library. She was preceded in death by her son Glenn Malby. She is survived by two sons; Greg Malby and Doug Malby and a daughter, Tami Tharpe, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
