John Louis Scheetz

John Louis Scheetz, 83, passed away peacefully on March 1 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House, Hughson.

He was born in Lawton, Oklahoma to George and Easter Scheetz. He came to California in 1944. He graduated from Oakdale High in 1948. When he was 17 years old he joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II.

Mr. Scheetz was retired from Turlock Irrigation District.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter and he loved taking his nieces and nephews with him. He was very proud of his yearly vegetable garden, which he would share with family and friends.

He was a longtime member of the Oakdale Sportsman Club, Lifetime Member to the NRA, and Lifetime Member with the Gold Prospectors Association of America.

He is survived by his sisters, Leona Hancock of Camino, Teresa Borba Gutierrez of Oakdale; and brother, Philip Scheetz of Arroyo Grande; and 10 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 at Lakewood Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel.
