It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our father, Farold. He passed away peacefully at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House with his family by his side.
Farold was born in Rupert, Idaho, the son of Stan and Olive Goff. His mother, like him, had an adventurous spirit and while seven months pregnant with him, won a ticket for a plane ride. The pilot’s name was different, “Farold”, she liked it, so that became dad’s name. Ironically, dad’s goal in high school was to become a pilot and got his students pilot license at 17, and in 1952 his pilot’s license.
His family moved to Glendale, California in 1946, and it was there that he met our mother Arlene (Vicki). He graduated from Hoover High School where he played football, and excelled in Track and Decathlon. He wanted to serve his country so after graduation he joined the U.S. Army, as a paratrooper. He was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He married mom on Father’s Day June 20, 1954. There were three children born to that union: Cheryl, Gary (deceased) and Robert.
Once out of the service our family lived in Glendale, Moorpark, and finally settled in Oakdale, CA. Dad was a member of the Sportsmans Club, Oakdale Country Club, National Ski Patrol and was a lifetime member of the P.R.C.A., where he participated in steer wrestling and team roping. He also enjoyed trap shooting, water skiing and was a certified scuba diver. He and his brother Roland, built McHenry Mobile Manor in Modesto, and he build Edwards RV Center in Oakdale.
In 1982 he moved back to Idaho, settling in McCall, where he sold real estate. He was a huge part in the McCall Frontier Days Rodeo. Eventually he retired from the B.L.M. and moved to New Plymouth, Idaho for the last 10 years of his life. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and back country camping.
He is survived by daughter Cheryl Harvey (Gary), son Robert Goff (Jeanie), grandchildren: Chris Harvey (Robin), Brieanna Harvey (Auden), Jenna Harvey-Woods (Ryan); great grandchildren: Evelyn Woods and Jack Harvey; brother Roland Goff (Galen).
A special thanks and gratitude to Jenna and Ryan and our mother for their special time with him in his last days. It was a hard goodbye.
A celebration of his life was held privately by his family and special friends on Saturday, Oct. 16.
