She was born in Sterling, Colorado to Charles and Ruth Sharp. Following the loss of her two younger sisters, the family moved to Oakland. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1932.

She met Martin Frates on July 4, following graduation. They were married two years later and had two daughters. They moved to the Escalon-Oakdale area in 1952, where she helped her husband with their almond orchard.

Mrs. Frates was also was a receptionist for Optometrist, Eleanor Scown, for many years before she and her husband retired to travel. They enjoyed many years spending winters in the southern states and Mexico and summers salmon fishing in Trinidad, CA.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and knitting. She volunteered at Oak Valley Hospital Auxiliary for many years and was an active member of the Oakdale Family Church of the Nazarene and loved the Lord. She chose to reside at Laurel Crest Assisted Living and was a positive influence to many.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Bob) Arnett of Oakdale; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Frates; daughter, Charlene Daily; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at Lakewood Funeral Home (Riverside Chapel), Hughson.
