Weekend Drowning Death At Woodward Reservoir
Stanislaus County Sheriff

A Labor Day drowning marred the long holiday weekend in the local area.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team recovered the body of a 26-year-old Sunnyvale man who drowned at Woodward Reservoir on Monday afternoon.

Authorities said Victor Sagastume-Menjivar had been swimming with family members near Area ‘U’ at the reservoir on 26-Mile Road northwest of Oakdale when he was last seen at around 11:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3. Deputies were on scene with a boat within minutes of getting the call, however, were unable to locate Sagastume-Menjivar.

The Sheriff’s Department Dive Team responded to the reservoir and located the body at around 5 p.m., authorities said. Sagastume-Menjivar was not wearing a life vest and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Sheriff’s Department officials said this was the first drowning at Woodward Reservoir this year.
