The Bryhni family, who are all big Giants fans, traveled to San Francisco this past weekend. Kathy, Brooke, Sierra and Garrett enjoyed a tremendous outing by the Giants and also appreciated the opportunity to be part of such a moving tribute to 9/11. Maybe the family should go to more games as it seems to have brought luck to the team by the Bay!

Maci Soares was seen working really hard to help get ready for last week’s 4-H sign-ups, which were held at our Valley Home Community Park. We offer a special thank you to Vicki Dickens, who always goes the extra mile to help keep our Valley Home Community Park clean following the meetings.

The Valley Home Community Park was also used last week for a meeting of the PTC Harvest Festival committee chaired by Michelle McKenzie, and the news coming from this meeting will be reported later in the Valley Home News.

The Chrisman family enjoyed an evening out together at last week’s Oakdale High School football game. We hear that Cheyenne Chrisman has been quite active on the Junior Varsity Water Polo Team and is having a great time! Way to go, Cheyenne!

Sierra Haynes and little sister Violet were seen out with Dad, Sean, getting ready for the new 4-H year. Sean is the group Gardening leader. May we suggest that Sean contact the Oakdale Garden Club as the Club is always interested in offering a helping hand to young gardeners with seeds, trowels and plants, etc. for free. Phew! Many Valley Home residents were startled by the high winds that came through early Saturday evening. Christina Barreto and her mom watched as the sky grew darker and had to take cover as umbrellas and lawn chairs were blown around. Clare Taro actually was able to sit on her front porch and watch as the winds approached. She also had a clear view of the windswept flames as they came across the fields out on Milton Road.

Halley Rose Smith reminds us of the upcoming Valley Home School 7th & 8th grade Washington D.C. trip fundraiser. It is being held at Café Bravo on September 22nd from 3 p.m. until closing. Café Bravo is donating a portion of the sales during that time period to assist our students in funding their Washington D.C. educational trip with World Strides Tours. World Strides is providing credentialed teachers to lead this exciting trip. Our students have the opportunity to visit many of the people’s monuments, museums and historical sites and learn about the history of the United States of America! Let us all join the students in this fund-raiser. Give our Valley Home moms an evening off from having to cook dinner and enjoy a delicious Café Bravo meal instead.

Oakdale Historical Society members Glenn Burghardt and Ralph Damante displayed the society’s historic 1951 Van Pelt Pumper-Tanker Fire Truck at the “Heroes Appreciation Sunday” held on the tenth anniversary of the “9/11” disaster. This special service was to honor our local heroes and was sponsored by the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Oakdale and included special presentations from Mayor Pat Paul, the Church and the Church children. A Medlen House of Beef BBQ was served by church members to a good-sized crowd of visitors following the service. The historic fire truck was of great interest to the visitors when they learned that the first pumper-tanker fire truck was produced here in Oakdale by the Van Pelt Fire Truck Co. in 1925.
