In this week’s column I am excited to introduce two amazing rodeo cowboys, Colton and Caden Farquer. Both are former students at our Valley Home school. Caden and Colton also went to Oakdale Junior High and graduated later from Oakdale High School. Although both travel and rodeo throughout the country, each of them have many other commitments in their lives. The brothers both graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. They each completed degrees in Bioresource and in Agricultural Engineering. Caden also added a minor in Art to his credentials. Colton, the oldest of the two brothers, is married to Cierra McClure Farquer, DMV. Cierra is an equine veterinarian at Pioneer Hospital, and enjoys the rodeo journey with Colton. The brothers still live within five miles of Valley Home and remain residents of Stanislaus County.
Colton continues to rodeo full time professionally, attending over 80 rodeos a year. Recently he won the tie down roping in Auburn, California. He trains team roping, breakaway, and tie down horses and provides lessons to roping students. Colton qualified again for the National Circuit Rodeo, now known as the NFR Open. He will compete for a national title in Colorado Springs, Colorado in July. This will be his third appearance at the National Circuit Finals. Colton also has his real estate license and works part time for his father as a business broker.
Younger brother Caden is also extremely busy. Caden is employed as an engineer at nearby Pacific Southwest Irrigation. He designs irrigation systems for nut orchards and grape vineyards. He spends his free time golfing and competing in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Rodeo. Last year he finished in the top 12 in the state, qualifying for the 2024 California Circuit Finals Rodeo. He recently placed at the Cave Creek, Arizona PRCA Rodeo. In addition to his duties as a design engineer, Caden helps run an additional subsidiary at Pacific Southwest Irrigation known as Rio Junction. Rio Junction manufactures and sells sand filtration tanks used in the irrigation systems Caden helps design.
Both brothers also remain committed to giving back to others. Each year they sponsor a rodeo scholarship that is awarded to a member of the Cal Poly rodeo team at the university. The proud parents of these two amazing young men are Dardelee and Byron Farquer DMV, CVA. Valley Home is very proud of these two hardworking and extremely talented cowboys!
