I was given some pages from the Valley Home School cookbook from 1979. I have been reading some of the history of our little town. In 1846 a land grant of 35,533 acres was given to Alfras Basil Thompson by the territorial governor, Pio Pico. In 1871 it was named Clyde, in 1903 it was changed to Thalheim. During WWI they translated the German name into Valley Home.

This area was inhabited by Indians but in 1901, Robert Wetzig from Missouri became the first settler followed by many others. In the early 1900s, Stockton Savings and Loan donated the property on Lone Tree Road for a cemetery, which we know as Valley Home Memorial Park.

This week our sixth, seventh and eighth graders are excited to go on their annual ski and snowboard trip. They will travel up the mountain on Thursday, March 7. Ski day is weather permitting. Students must be at school and ready to travel by 5:50 a.m. The bus will depart from Valley Home School at 6:10 a.m. and head up to Dodge Ridge. At 7:30 a.m. the students will unload the bus and head to the Dodge Ridge cafeteria. At 8 a.m., they will receive their lift tickets and rental lesson paperwork. They will then head to the rental shop to rent their gear. This is going to be such a fun day for our Valley Home students. The kids will enjoy lunch together at 12:10 in the cafeteria. They may either bring a sack lunch or have purchased a voucher in the cafeteria. All students/parents must have turned in their completed signature forms, signed the mandatory behavior rules, and have paid the fees. As a reminder, the students received a mandatory items list which they must have before loading the bus. They need goggles (preferred) or sunglasses, ski or snowboard gloves, warm knit hat (not a baseball cap), warm jacket, preferably waterproof, waterproof pants, warm socks, long underwear, change of clothes, sunscreen, sack lunch or money for lunch. Students/parents should check with Mrs. Holly Benkula for more information. We wish for the most beautiful day for this trip.

Some important events are coming up this month, more information to come about the Valley Home PTC meeting. Please consider becoming part of this amazing group, where many classroom and school activities get their funds. They work very hard all year for our students.

The Valley Home School Board appreciates your support and attendance at meetings.

The Fire Board meeting this month is in Knights Ferry, but the April meeting will be here at our Valley Home Fire station. They are dedicated to making our community safe and they need input from the community. Also in April we will have the Love Valley Home Day. We need many to get involved with the activities of cleaning up our neighborhoods. Our Valley Home School is also planning the Washington DC trip at the end of this month.
