From all appearances, it would seem that there was a mass exodus from our Valley Home community this past week with residents seeking the cooler breezes of both the ocean and the foothills. For those of us who stayed home and braved the heat, the community seemed unusually quiet, with almost no traffic to speak of.

Let’s hear it for Lainey Smith, who traveled to the Livermore area recently to compete in the Livermore Junior Rodeo. She did quite well, winning the girls breakaway roping competition and placed second in steer stopping. Lainey, along with her sister Halley and friends Dallas, Terilyn and Kacey had a great rodeo.

Our Red Hat Valley Home members of Oakdale’s Red Hat Fun Lovin’ Ladies are looking forward to a busy season of enjoyable luncheons around the area. They are starting off the season with luncheon and meeting held on July 7, at Café Bravo in Oakdale. Members are reminded to give Gail (Cookie) a call at 847-0761 to make your reservations to all events and remember to give her a call if you need to cancel or have not made your reservation. Our Red Hat Queen Bonnie Bianchi reminds us that we need to confirm with the restaurant how many to expect.

The good word has been received that Valley Home PTC president Lisa Jones will continue in that position for another year. She has given her officers and committee persons a bit of time off until July10th when they plan on getting the calendar for the upcoming school year in order. With Lisa’s enthusiasm and leadership we know it will be a good year.

The Valley Home Community Center board of directors met last week at the park and pavilion site for a productive meeting. The 6-foot chain link fence installed this past month will be continued around the corner to the edge of the pavilion and then will be continued along the alleyway with 4 foot chain link fence to Pioneer Ave. Other projects for July, pending weather, include the trenching of the site and installation of the sprinkler system, leveling of the site and installation of a two-foot rock-brick fence on the Pioneer Ave. border line. These plans also depend on the availability of volunteers, which has been very good. Keep your eyes on the site – things are happening.

The re-scheduled Valley Home MAC for June met last Wednesday with a light attendance in both residents and county representatives. A report was presented by the CHP officer indicating that there no been no serious incidents. The officer also stated that in July he would try and spend some evening time covering Valley Home Road during commute hours.
There was a discussion of a possibility of Lone Tree Road being designated a “No Commercial Zone” for traffic as the use by large trucks at high speeds is increasing.
It was also reported by MAC members that there was a problem in the area with harassment of others by “gang” activity. It was mentioned that the four young boys were also firing pellet guns at electric lines and causing other problems.
Raul Mendez from the county chief executive’s office reported a “balanced” county budget with many cuts.
