This week of February finds residents enjoying a fabulous array of blossoms, appearing almost overnight on all the almond trees in our Valley Home area. Not to be out done in beauty, blossoming pear and ornamental plum, add additional color here and there throughout our community. Just one of the reasons we enjoy living in our Valley Home community.

Saturday found some of our 4-H Rabbit members attending County 4-H Rabbit Field Day and Cavy Field Day. Attending the event were Ben Fletcher, Callie Crisman, Allie Reberg, Annaliese Davis and Halley Smith. The group participated in showmanship, judging and breed identifying contests. At the last rabbit meeting Ben picked out a rabbit to purchase and show at the 2011 County Fair, and Ben named his buck Mini Lop, “Under Rabbit.”

Let’s give a round of applause to Lainey Smith, just returned from the King City Invitational High School Rodeo at which she won the breakaway event. Winning this event gave Lainey enough points to be invited to a statewide rodeo entitled, “Challenge of the Champions.”

The “Let it Roll” Bunko Night is approaching on Friday, March 4 with doors opening at the Valley Home School gymnasium building at 6 p.m. A $20 donation, made out to the Valley Home PTC will provide guests with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. The evening promises fantastic food, fun games and wonderful door prizes. Get your tickets in advance to guarantee your spot to this jam packed fun-filled event!

Bad news has hit the Valley Home area again. A report came to VH news that vehicle theft occurred last week in the town area. A trailer for carrying machinery and equipment was stolen during the night hours. This should be a reminder to all residents who have not had their farm equipment labeled with owner applied numbers by the Stanislaus County Sheriff Volunteers the time is now to schedule this important project. The owner applied number is specific to you/your farm and can assist with the tracking and return of your property and there is NO CHARGE to you. In Stanislaus County the number is 652-0356. Also the Stanislaus Farm Bureau has no trespassing signs for purchase and Farm Watch Warning signs.
The newly formed Valley Home MAC Safety Committee has the goal of getting farms/ranches and other properties marked with these owner applied numbers, no trespassing signs, warning signs and an active email group to report theft, suspicious activities etc. in our area. This information will be used hopefully to deter crimes in addition to gathering information for the Rural Crimes Task Force and to make our community safer.
