Our fire board held a very important special fire board meeting on Monday, July 31. The meeting was well attended by our Valley Home community as well as some of our Knights Ferry friends. The meeting was held to gather public input on browning out our Valley Home station and moving all staff to Knights Ferry for the remainder of the fire season. After a lengthy discussion, the board voted to keep Valley Home station as is. All in attendance agreed that Knights Ferry needs more resources during fire season, but felt our community would be at great risk also without emergency services. Our fire department works without adequate dollars and the state gets a very large ‘piece of the pie,’ leaving our resources stretched very thin! Dolly Haskell will organize a town hall meeting with Valley Home and Knights Ferry. Your thoughts, ideas and concerns are very important. Come and be part of the discussion. Your voice counts. Dolly will let us know when the meeting is scheduled, probably close to the end of the month. Knights Ferry and Valley Home have always worked together with our fire department, hope to see you at the town hall!
Our National Night Out celebration was very well attended! Everybody had tons of fun, plenty of delicious food and great visits with old and new friends. The crowd enjoyed delightful drinks inspired by the Islands, Hawaiian sunsets, tiki punch and many others. Since it was 108 degrees outside, a giant fan with cool water misters kept folks comfortable during the evening. We are especially thankful to our fire department Chief Weigele, Deputy Chief Wapnowski, Tim Spears, Capt. Jeff Frye, Eng. Mike Anderson and Capt. Buck Condit, thank you for coming to Valley Home. We appreciate your service to our community! We were excited to have Sheriff Deputy Chris Hendee. He made the night very special for all. His enthusiasm and knowledge was a treat for everyone who gathered around his patrol car. Thank you Deputy Hendee. You are greatly appreciated in Valley Home!
Until next time, “Happy Trails to All!”
