How do you speak your mind when you can’t say a word?
Delta Drama returns Dec. 5 through 8 with “Small Mouth Sounds,” a story of six runaways from city life who embark on a silent retreat in the overwhelming quiet of the woods.
As these strangers confront internal demons both profound and absurd, their vows of silence collide with the achingly human need to connect. Bess Wohl’s show, which has barely any dialogue, takes you on the meditation retreat you’ve been too scared (and too skeptical) to try for real.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening shows, Dec. 5, 6 and 7, are at 7 p.m.; matinee shows will take the stage at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8.
The Delta Drama students will put on the production at the Al Muller Studio Theatre, Delta College, 5151 Pacific Ave., Stockton.
Tickets are available at www.deltadrama.com, at the Delta College Box Office, or by calling (209) 954-5110. Seating is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis. This production is recommended for ages 12 and up.
Ticket prices are $7 for general admission, ages 18 and older; $5 for students up to 17 years old.
The drama curriculum at Delta helps students develop knowledge, skills and competencies necessary for transfer to the upper division level as well as fulfilling AA Degree general education requirements.
The drama program provides a rigorous, disciplined, and integrated curriculum designed to meet the vocational demands of the theatre profession. Delta offers scholarships to new students who qualify. The actor training program is a two-year course of study in which students who have successfully auditioned can concentrate their efforts in rigorous acting classes three times a week in the first year and five times a week in the second year, while also studying stagecraft in separate technical classes.
