SJVC LOGO

The San Joaquin Valley College (SJVC) Modesto area campus will be hosting a “Skilled Trades Night” on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The campus is at 5380 Pirrone Road, Salida.

Guests will have the opportunity to view live student demonstrations and tour the campus while learning more about the programs and training equipment.

According to a new survey from Thumbtack, an overwhelming majority – 87 percent – of skilled trade professionals say they’re happy in their jobs and would choose the same profession again if given the chance. And 73 percent of young people included in the survey said they respect skilled trade jobs as a lifelong career. Yet since the beginning of 2023, there have been more than 770,000 skilled job postings from nearly 95,000 different employers across the country, according to data from PeopleReady Skilled Trades.

The Skilled Trades Night will give local students a better opportunity to see those trades in action, and give them a chance to learn what it’s like to train for a career in the field. Among the trade and industrial programs available: Aviation Maintenance Technology; Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration; Electrical Technology; Construction Management; and Maintenance Technician.

There will also be Admissions, Financial Services and Career Services teams on hand to answer questions. Call for more information, 209-543-8800 or, to RSVP, visit sjvc.edu/events.
