Oakdale Police are searching for a man who tossed a stolen gun out of his speeding car while leading officers on a pursuit on Aug. 29, just before midnight.

Police have identified the man as 45-year-old Richard Allen Sherrill of Oakdale.

According to police reports, officers tried to stop the speeding silver Ford Edge in the area of East B Street and Yosemite Avenue.

Instead of stopping, Sherrill sped off and officers initiated a pursuit, during which time, Sherrill threw a loaded .22 caliber pistol out the window. The gun was later determined to be reported stolen out of Modesto.

Due to public safety concerns, police cancelled the pursuit.
