Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 7-1-26

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, June 23 through Monday, June 29. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

MONDAY, JUNE 29

Crews attended a badge pinning event at Station 1 for newly promoted Battalion and Deputy Chiefs. Congratulations to Chief Juarez, Chief Serpa, Chief Esparza and Chief Beauchemin on promoting to their new positions.

Battalion 2: Detailed Monday apparatus inspections and maintenance was completed across Battalion 2 today.

Battalion 5: Crews completed weekly apparatus and equipment maintenance.

10:36 a.m. – Engine 28, HazMat 41, Battalion 5 and the HazMat Inspector to Albers Road for a hazardous materials incident. Engine 28 arrived on scene and met with site staff. Staff explained that they were experiencing various medical symptoms that were making them sick. Additional crews were requested, including the MFD HazMat team and HazMat 41. Upon their arrival, firefighters used specialized monitoring equipment to find a Freon leak in an HVAC unit. The unit was secured and the structure was ventilated. The owners called for a repair technician and left the building for the day. All staff were evaluated and released.

7:15 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Battalion 5 and OVHD Medics responded to River Road for a vehicle vs. pedestrian. Crews arrived on scene to find one patient with minor injuries. Firefighters assisted with treating the patient and packaging them for transport to a local hospital for treatment.

SUNDAY, JUNE 28

Battalion 5: Crews completed mandated Target Solution assignments, conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance, and performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.

3 p.m. – Engine 28 and Battalion 5 responded to Woodward Reservoir in Oakdale for a subject who nearly drowned while swimming. Crews arrived on scene and provided patient care to one patient who became extremely tired while swimming and took on water. Oak Valley Ambulance also assisted with assessing the patient.

3:30 p.m. – Engine 27, Water Rescue 29, Water Rescue 26 and Battalion 5 responded to the 11000 block of Rodden Road for a subject having a seizure on a boat in the middle of a pond. Crews arrived on scene to find the patient was brought to shore by bystanders and E28 provided patient care. Oak Valley Ambulance transported the patient to a local hospital for further evaluation.

6 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 26, Quint 22, Quint 18 and Battalion 5 responded to a commercial fire alarm at Oak Valley Hospital. Crews arrived on scene with nothing showing and investigated. Crews determined the fire alarm was caused by a faulty detector. The staff placed the alarm system on test and will provide fire watch until the maintenance crew can repair the system.

11:30 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 26, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 responded for a potential structure fire in the 400 block of Church Street in Oakdale for food on the stove that caught on fire. Engine 27 arrived on scene to a two-story apartment with nothing showing. Crews investigated and found a grease fire that was out and did not have any extension into the structure. Crews provided patient care for one patient who suffered burns and was transported to a local hospital for further care. Crews remained on scene for roughly 30 minutes to remove smoke from the apartment.

SATURDAY, JUNE 27

The Technical Rescue Team conducted training on confined space rescue.

9:36 p.m. – Engine 11, Engine 26, Truck 5, Battalion 5, Battalion 1 and Medic 1 responded to the report of an injury accident in the 1100 block of Ladd Road. Engine 11 arrived at the scene and reported a three-vehicle accident with one vehicle on fire and approximately seven patients. An MCI pre-alert was declared for the incident. Crews extinguished the car on fire and provided patient care for a total of eight patients. One patient was declared deceased on scene, one immediate was flown to a nearby trauma center and the remaining patients were transported to local area hospitals for further care.

Battalion 5: Crews completed mandated Target Solution assignments, conducted apparatus checks and Saturday station maintenance.

Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s for Company Level Drill Day.

Engine 27, Battalion 5, Fire Chief Evans and multiple Deputy Chiefs attended the All American Bash in Oakdale at Dorada Park. Crews took the time to hand out fire helmets, stickers and interact with the public at the event.

12:10 a.m. (Sunday) – Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine and WT21, Engine and WT23 and Battalion 5 responded to an unknown type fire in the 5000 block of Langworth Road. Battalion 5 arrived on scene and made access to the back of the property to find a large 50’ x 200’compost pile on fire. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, limiting spread to a 30’ x 50’ area. Crews remained on scene for approximately 90 minutes to mop up the fire.

FRIDAY, JUNE 26

Battalion 2: Engine 26 completed the change from Class A foam to Class AB foam at the RFTC today.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment maintenance.

1:15 p.m. – Engine 28, Brush 24 and Battalion 5 to Crow Road for a palm tree on fire next to a home. Crews arrived on scene to find a large palm tree on fire with no threat to the home. Firefighters worked for 45 minutes to fully extinguish the fire.

6:30 p.m. – Engine 27, Battalion 5 and Oak Valley Medics stood by as Oakdale Police Department conducted a search warrant in the City of Oakdale.

11:03 p.m. – Water Rescue 26, Water Rescue 28, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to Woodward Reservoir for a missing person. The subject had set out three hours earlier in a float tube and had not returned. Crews began their search, considering wind direction and travel path. Air 11 was overhead as well and assisted with the search. After a 30-minute search, the subject was found uninjured. Sheriff’s Office personnel were able to take him back to his campsite.

THURSDAY, JUNE 25

Battalion 2: Crews are completing an inventory of OES Engine 347.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment maintenance.

Battalion 5 trained on Department staffing policies and procedures with a newly promoted Battalion Chief.

12:29 p.m. – Water Rescue 28, Water Rescue 29, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 to Frymire Road for a water rescue. Crews found four patients stranded on a rock in the middle of the river after their pool rings collapsed. WR29 was able to find them and quickly evacuate them to the Knights Ferry Day Use area. All were evaluated by Medics and refused treatment.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24

The Technical Rescue Team (Truck 5, Engine 11 and Truck 1) conducted monthly team training (confined space) with Squad 32 and Haz Mat 41 personnel.

Battalion 2: Crews trained on salvage covers and catch basins.

Battalion 5: 5:02 p.m. – Water Rescue 29, Water Rescue 28 and Battalion 5 responded to a report of two people stranded and stuck in trees on the Stanislaus River near Honolulu Bar. Both boats were launched and were able to locate and rescue a mother and her son along with their kayaks. Neither was injured and were safely removed from the river.

TUESDAY, JUNE 23

Battalion 5: Engine 27 trained on drafting from alternate water sources in their territory.

Boat 29 conducted training on the Stanislaus River in Knights Ferry.

1:27 a.m. (Wednesday) – Engine 28, Engine 27, Engine 26, Engine 23, Engine 24, Quint 22, Battalion 5, Battalion 2 and Medic 1 responded to a working structure fire in the 800 block of East F Street in the City of Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived to find fire burning underneath a mobile home. Crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading inside the structure. There were no injuries.
