NOSTALGIAVILLE It is now 2016, which means we are so far in the future that not even Marty McFly knows whats going to happen. Each year we get a little older, and looking back on the movies from years ago makes us feel even older.

So if that pain in your back and the fact that you have a hard time staying up past 9:30 isnt enough, here are five movies to make you feel old.

These movies were all released in 1996, which means they are turning 20 years old this year and are almost old enough to be graduating from college.

Independence Day

Back in the time when Will Smith was still known as the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Jeff Goldblum was better known as Dr. Ian Malcolm these two starred in the blockbuster of 1996, Independence Day.

This movie was all sorts of ridiculous, but the special effects were mesmerizing and it was a whole lot of fun. This sci-fi action flick was released 20 years ago on July 3. Luckily for us this movie isnt just two decades of nostalgia anymore, because the long awaited sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence, is due in theaters on June 24.

Mission: Impossible

In 2015 we were treated to a fantastic addition to the Mission: Impossible franchise with Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation. That was the fifth installment in the M:I movie catalogue, but the original is now an adult.

The twisty-turny tale of Ethan Hunt and his small band of IMF agents hit theaters on May 22, 1996. While the last 20 years have been good to the M:I franchise for the most part sans M:I 2 these past two decades have probably been nicer to star Tom Cruise. Not only has he made numerous blockbusters, but he also looks like hes aged maybe five years, not 20.

"Happy Gilmore"

Whether you like it or not Adam Sandler is one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood. Most people complain about his movies these days, but for some reason that doesnt stop them from seeing them. This may be because audiences still remember the past when Sandler made classics like Happy Gilmore.

The tale of the foul-mouthed hockey player turned golfer will turn 20 years old on Feb. 16. Sure, the movie isnt a masterpiece, but it is funny even 20 years later. Not to mention it looks like a best picture nominee compared to a lot of Sandlers recent efforts.

"Space Jam"

Its 1996 and youre thinking to yourself, What do kids like?

Things that come to mind would include Bugs Bunny, Michael Jordan, basketball and Quad City DJs. Well, maybe those wouldnt come to everyones mind, but it did come to mind for some execs at Warner Bros. How do we know this? Because of Space Jam, thats how.

The movie is, well, its pretty terrible, but pretty much every kid on the planet saw it at least once. And if you remember begging your parents to take you then you are over 20 years old. Space Jam hit theaters on Nov. 15, 1996.

As a side note, there is a sequel due in theaters next year with LeBron James filling in for MJ.

That Thing You Do!

Tom Hanks totally owned the 90s. The man had back-to-back Oscar wins during this time, starred in huge blockbusters like Sleepless in Seattle, Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, and Saving Private Ryan to name a few. The Hollywood prince also made his feature-length directorial debut with That Thing You Do!

When did this tale of a one-hit wonder band take over theaters? Oct. 4, 1996. Thats right, that comedy that both you and your mom loved is turning 20 this year. The flick is far from perfect, but even two decades later it makes you laugh, as well as make you wish Steve Zahn was a bigger star.

Just in case youre worried I missed a few, keep in mind over 1,000 movies were released in 1996 and Ive only got so much time. In an effort to try and appease some of you here are some other titles that will make you feel old as they turn 20 this year.
