Veterans Meeting Monday In Oakdale
US Flag

Local veterans’ services and issues will be at the forefront when Oakdale plays host to the Stanislaus County Veterans Advisory Commission’s monthly meeting scheduled for Monday, April 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the Oakdale City Council Chambers, 277 N. Second Ave.

Representatives of Congressman Jeff Denham and newly elected state Assemblyman Heath Flora are scheduled to be on hand to discuss legislation vital to veterans. Local and county agencies servicing area veterans will also be in attendance. Special guests at the meeting are scheduled to include members of the Junior Navy Seals from Oakdale and Johansen high schools and a representative from the Pacific Project Heroes.

The commission was established in 2012 by the county Board of Supervisors to provide county veterans with a forum to discuss issues important to their “health, welfare and well-being” and to advise the board on matters important to the veteran community.

The seven member commission played a vital role in the establishment of the new Stanislaus Veterans Center at 3500 Coffee Road in Modesto, which had its grand opening this past Friday, April 21.

The commission regularly meets the fourth Monday of every month at varying locations around the county and was last in Oakdale in February 2013.
