After winning Section titles in their respective events, three area athletes – two Mustangs and one Bruin – continued their seasons at the prestigious Masters Meet.

Oakdale High track and field athletes Grant Gardner and Natalie Powell, along with Riverbank High athlete Giselle Fernandez, moved on to the Masters, hosted at Folsom High School on Saturday May 23.

Gardner, an OHS senior, came away with a fourth place overall showing at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Championships, clearing 14 feet even in the pole vault at the event. The winner, from Turlock High School, cleared 15-06.

Powell, just completing her junior year, earned second place honors at the Masters with a throw of 39-10.25 in the shot put. She was second to an athlete from Rio Americano who threw for a distance of 42-11.50.

For Riverbank, standout distance runner Fernandez competed in the 1600 meters. The senior placed second at the Masters with a time of 4:52.65 in the race, which was won by a Davis High School athlete, completing the course in 4:40.59.
