A pair of canned food drive efforts are taking place locally, the first one hosted by the Oakdale High School S Club and the second by the Central Valley Association of realtors.

The school’s S Club will be conducting its ‘Caroling for Cans’ canned food drive on Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6. The Friday drive will begin at 3 p.m. in the Burchell Hill and East Oakdale areas and on Saturday, the high schoolers will start at 1 p.m. and canvass The Vineyards neighborhood. Students will be singing Christmas carols as they go house to house seeking canned food donations to help provide for less fortunate families this holiday season.

Coming up later this month, it’s the 33rd annual CanTree Breakfast to benefit Oakdale Community Sharing. Breakfast will be served at the Gene Bianchi Community Center at 110 S. Second Ave., on Thursday, Dec. 11 starting at 7 a.m.

Cost is $5 per ticket and following breakfast, a live auction is hosted for a number of great items. Attendees are asked to bring a canned food item to breakfast and proceeds will also go to the Community Sharing organization, which provides a weekly food distribution in the area.

Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., with the auction starting at 8:30 a.m.

For tickets, contact any local real estate office or call Rebecca Montgomery at 988-1577.

Both the Caroling for Cans and the CanTree Breakfast help Oakdale residents in need.
