Fairapooloza Is Coming To The Fair

   Fairapolooza is coming to the Stanislaus County Fair and showcasing two fun and funky bands.

            ZaSu Pitts Memorial Orchestra and Mumbo Gumbo will be performing during the Fairapolooza concert on Sunday, July 15 on the Budweiser Variety Free Stage at 8:30 p.m. The concert will be hosted by 104.1 The Hawk.

            “ZaSu Pitts Memorial Orchestra and Mumbo Gumbo have been in the music industry for over 20 years,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “We are always excited to have bands that span numerous musical genres.”

            The ZaSu Pitts Memorial Orchestra, put together by Stephen Ashman, is the Bay Area’s most renowned and legendary rhythm and blues band. They have toured all over the world and headlined concerts and clubs for over 4,200 performances. They’ve performed at private events for The San Francisco 49ers and Giants, Levi Strauss and Company, Hewlett-Packard, and Apple Computers to name a few. The ZaSu Pitts Memorial Orchestra has performed in famous venues including the Fillmore, the Catalyst, The Ritz in New York, and San Francisco Civic Auditorium. 

            Among the many nominations and awards ZaSu Pitts Memorial Orchestra has received including a BAMMIE award for Outstanding Independent Album, they have received six BAMMIE nominations for Outstanding Female Vocalist, three EMMY Awards and eight EMMY Nominations for the PBS production of "Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra In Concert" (which has aired on numerous PBS stations nationally and has received extensive airplay on European television), as well as a Cabaret Gold Award for Outstanding Musical Group.

            Mumbo Gumbo blends many genres, from rock to soul, afro-pop to lush balladry, zydeco to country, into a celebratory, danceable sound. They have released nine original-music cds and collected numerous "Sammie" and "Best of Sacramento" awards.
