Early Returns Show Santos Maintaining OID Seat
OID

Unofficial results in the April 25 recall election for Oakdale Irrigation District Director Linda Santos showed with just under 500 votes counted, the ‘No’ votes for recall were 276 to 218 ‘Yes’ votes. The early, unofficial returns show Santos holding on to the post but there are additional ballots to review before the count is finalized and the results can be certified.

Elections officials also said there were 229 votes cast for candidate Nate Ludlow to replace Santos in Division 4 should she be recalled, while 22 write in votes were also cast.

Stanislaus County Registrar of Voters Lee Lundrigan said her office counted 499 ballots for the April 25, 2017 OID Recall Election. There were 1,819 eligible voters. That unofficial Election Day result may be viewed at the stanvote.com website and includes ballots voted at the polls and vote by mail ballots received and processed as of last week.

The canvass of the OID Recall Election vote will begin Wednesday, Lundrigan added. At this time the Registrar of Voters Office has an undetermined number of vote by mail ballots received on or just before Election Day remaining to be processed. Ballot preparation includes checking the signature on each envelope against the signature located on the original affidavit of registration. Additional tasks include opening, flattening and processing each of the ballots through the high speed ballot scanning equipment to tabulate these remaining ballots.

The canvass will continue until complete. California law requires certification for this election or before May 25, 2017.
