U.S. Representative Jeff Denham welcomed the winner of California’s 10th District Congressional Art Competition, Skye Ocaranza, to the U.S. Capitol on Thursday, June 29. Skye’s artwork, “Rampehant,” was selected by a panel of local judges and will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel alongside the winning entries from every congressional district in the United States for the next year, where thousands of visitors will be able to view the entries on their way to the U.S. Capitol.

“It’s always an honor to welcome young Central Valley talent to the nation’s capital to see their artwork displayed on a national stage,” said Rep. Denham. “I’m proud to have Skye’s art represent California’s 10th district and am inspired by his passion and creativity. I wish him the best of luck as he surely has a bright future ahead of him.”

Skye, a Turlock native, is a recent graduate of Pitman High School and will attend San Jose State this fall, working towards a Bachelor of Fine Arts in the school’s Animation/Illustration Program. He was honored at a reception for winning students in the U.S. Capitol.

“I’m extremely honored to be a part of this congressional art competition,” said Skye. “The monuments, White House tour and museums I have visited so far in Washington, D.C. have been extraordinary to see. I thank Congressman Denham and his staff for this exciting opportunity.”

The Congressional Art Competition was established in 1982, and since then, more than 650,000 students have participated.
