The 10th anniversary of the Healthy Aging and Fall Prevention Summit is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Modesto Centre Plaza, 10th and K streets in Modesto. The free health screenings and Health Fair event for older adults (50-plus) and their caregivers is presented by the Healthy Aging Association, Kaiser Permanente and Stanislaus Area Agency on Aging. More than 1,000 people attended last year.

Oakdale area residents can attend the event to receive health screenings that will include tests for diabetes, cholesterol, bone density, body mass index, blood pressure, balance testing, vision, hearing, dental, and much more. Health educators will be on hand stationed near screening areas to answer result questions. Pneumonia and flu vaccinations will also be available. There will be five different physicians available to answer any questions.

The summit will include more than 70 interactive exhibits that address a variety of issues geared toward senior health and well-being, care giving, memory loss and dementia, long term-care options, senior retirement centers, elder abuse, financial abuse, medication management and Medicare assistance.

There are also a few new items that have been added for this year: stroke assessment, monofilament foot test, oxygen levels in blood, and colon cancer screening kits. Live entertainment with The Quake Mobile DJ and exercise demonstrations will be going on throughout the morning. There will also be bagels, fruit, juice, and coffee for attendees.

A spokeswoman said: “Come out, and enjoy the day. It will be a fun time and there will be lots of freebies.”
