It is August already and here are some dates for your calendar. August 2nd is the Community Club meeting at 6:30 p.m. It is a dinner meeting. August 5th is Breakfast Sunday in the Ferry at the I.O.O.F. Hall. The Knights Ferry History and Museum Associates meet August 14th at 9:00 a.m. at Miller’s Hall. The School Board meets August 9th at 6:00 p.m. at the school.

Barbara and Lynn Burroughs have returned from an Alaskan cruise where the highlight was both of them going down a zip line in Ketchikan, zipping among the eagles at 30 miles per hour!

Pat Pfefferle has returned from attending son Will Johnson’s wedding in St. Louis.
It was a lovely wedding and Will and Anna honeymooned in Quebec, Canada. Pat said it was hot (106 and broke records) but the humidity wasn’t so bad.

Bill and Ellen Wearin have had visitors from Missouri this summer. Ellen’s niece Allison, her husband Caleb and children Huxley and Roland came out for a visit. While here Huxley turned 7 and had a big party with relatives and friends. Allison went to Knights Ferry School when she was Huxley’s age. It was a good party and a great visit.

At the Knights Ferry MAC meeting, Angela Freitas, Director, and Josh Mann from Stanislaus County Planning Department presented site modification of the historical zoning for Knights Ferry (also La Grange). They have made a new minimum parcel size map due to water and sewage concerns. In the Historical Site District, an area has been designated for 20,000 square feet parcels serviced by public water and septic tanks (if you have a private well and septic tank it is one acre).

Outside of that area the minimum parcel size shall be five acres.

They will present maps at a later meeting. Watch this column for time and place. Also at the MAC meeting, David Voortman reported that the rafting parking areas have had cars broken into and things stolen. In just a short time they smash and grab. His rafting company has hired guards for the area. The MAC also approved Ed Fortuny’s plans for an ag building.
