Gabby Gonzalez, 12-years-old, showed her first market lamb at the Stanislaus County Fair last week and won fifth place in market, second place in showmanship, and sold her lamb for $7.50 a pound at the sale! Gabby purchased her Hampshire wether lamb at a livestock sale at MJC about six months ago. She explained to me that a wether is a castrated male sheep. Gabby took care of her wether, ‘Hammy’ feeding him grain and alfalfa and helping him learn to how to work with a halter and brace or pose to show all of his muscles all in preparation for the Fair. Before the fair she had to shave him down and spent a week in the heat at the fairgrounds caring for his needs and keeping his skin moisturized for the show. Way to go Gabby!

The Knights Ferry fire department had a bit of an accident over the weekend as they were pulling one of the fire engines out of their garage when the garage door began to close, causing some damage to the building.

We are in the mid-rattlesnake season and many locals have reported multiple rattlesnakes on their property. Be on the lookout for rattlesnakes!

James Peterson won his first buckle as the NCJRA Oakdale Champion Steer Wrestler. James has worked very hard over the last year to learn the sport of steer wrestling and it all paid off this weekend! Great job, James!
Colton Cox had a great weekend at the NCJRA Oakdale Junior Rodeo. He won the goat tying and calf roping and was named the Jr All-Around champion! Congratulations, Colton!
