The cannons boomed and the North and South fought to the delight of the many onlookers seated on the hillside in the lovely spring weather. The camps of the Union and Confederates were separated by the river and were full of activity during the two days of encampment. The town was full of re-enactors and the public both days. The Community Club’s spaghetti dinner was well attended with good food and great raffle prizes. Bill VanderMark won the 4 tickets to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, donated by the Alex Naccarato family. Thanks go out to all who made this event a success. Displayed at the dinner was a trophy honoring Fred and Lisa Dolling for establishing and preserving the best privately owned tourist attraction north of the river (Joe and Zip). It even had a camel on the top of the trophy! Lisa’s brother-in-law Bob Paulat made it.

Gordon and Michel Griesner had a visit from daughter Lisa, son-in-law Jason, and grandchildren Briana, Kyla and Jordyn. Jason is opening an office (Priamica) in Oakdale and they hope to move here this summer. Jordyn will be the 5th generation on both Michel and Gordon’s sides to attend school here.

Justin Paulat, grandson of Phil and Carmen Frymire, has moved to Arizona where he has a job in Phoenix. The Ferry will miss him-good luck Justin!

April is sneaking up fast! The Community Club will meet Thursday, April 1 at 6:30 and will be a dinner meeting. Good Friday service at the church will be at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday the sunrise service will be at sunrise at Frymire Hill and 9:30 at the church. Because of Easter on the 4th, the Odd Fellows will have their Sunday Breakfast on April 11th, same time and place.

During the REAL Civil War, Knights Ferry had two contingents here. The North, led by Captain Lewis Dent, and the South, led by Cornel Lane. The North trained in Knights Ferry and the South trained at Mt. Brow Ranch, north of the Ferry by about 2 miles. Both practiced marching and drilling but never fought each other! It is safe to assume that after a hard day of marching and drilling in the heat, they rubbed elbows at the local saloons to cut the dust out of their throat.
