Knights Ferry News 12-04-19
Nastasia Sweet

It was a cold and rainy day in Knights Ferry on Sunday. Typically, the first Sunday in December is a busy day for locals who line up to watch or partake in the Christmas parade but it was just too wet to bring out the golf carts and quads. Dakota Voortman proved to be one of the die-hard locals as she walked the street wearing her elf hat with her dog, Spartacus wearing his holiday outfit! The Masonic Lodge, Odd Fellows Hall, and the Knights Ferry Museum had a very special open house inviting people to tour their buildings. I, myself have only been in the upstairs of the Masonic Lodge and Odd Fellows Hall a few times so it was a treat to see what happens in the mysterious quarters! Aaron Hodge was very knowledgeable about the Masonic Lodge and he was able to recall facts about the antique furniture and the symbolic decorations. Fred Dolling was the tour guide in the Odd Fellows Hall and visitors signed their guest book. The Odd Fellows and the Masonic Lodge are both proud to take care of their members and their families. One thing I learned is that both fraternities have retirement homes for their members or their widows. They offer the program to the long time and committed members who are need of aid. In the Knights Ferry Museum, Carol Davis and company greeted the public on behalf of the museum. The Museum is home to numerous documents and antiques that pertain to Knights Ferry. We are so blessed to have this museum to preserve our town’s history!

Don’t forget to attend the Knights Ferry Community Club dinner on Thursday, December 5 at 6pm. The members have decorated the Club and trimmed the tree to prepare for the dinner. The Club asks that each family bring a side dish or dessert to share and they will provide turkey, ham, rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy! There will be musical entertainment by students from Oakdale High after dinner. It will be a great time to enjoy local company and fellowship.
