At the Knights Ferry School Board meeting 5th grader Austin led the flag pledge. The board approved the Unaudited Actuals, adding a 4-hour Aide, hopefully one that speaks Spanish to help with the English Language Learners program and showed that the school has enough Instruction Materials. They also approved three resolutions. Dr. J told of students starting clubs at school. Clubs so far are Spanish, Pokémon, Kindness and Agriculture. Lynn Duckworth is back and off her crutches.

Part of a letter from Richmond in Knights Ferry, March 9, 1869: “Knights Ferry should be termed the city of magnificent residences. It is the prettiest little place we have met up with yet. All the businessmen appear to be doing well. Each one of the numerous stores are well stocked with all kinds of goods. Maj. Lane, Sheriff, and his handsome young son Tommy, keep the large three story brick hotel, courthouse, jail, county’s offices and a dancing hall, which all are in the same building. They keep a splendid hotel, set a sumptuous table and have polite and attentive waiters. A large two-story frame schoolhouse stands upon the top of the hill overlooking the town. Forty scholars are in attendance.”

The person that wrote this was documenting the trip from Sonora to the valley for the Sonora paper, now the “Union Democrat”.
