Knights Ferry School is selling tickets for their annual dinner and auction fundraiser. The event is Saturday, March 4 and it will be back at the Knights Ferry Community Club. The tickets are $60 per person and will include dinner, dessert, nonalcoholic beverages and beer and wine. Attendees must be at least 21 years old. This year’s theme is Knights Ferry School and attire is casual but this is a great time to bust out the school spirit wear! For your tickets text Lacy at 209-678-4757 with a contact number and full names of attendees. Cash, checks, or Venmo payments accepted.

One of the best things about Knights Ferry is the community sharing between locals. Got extra lemons? They leave some near the Post Office for anyone to grab. Got some grapefruits? They might be in a basket outside someone’s home with a sign that says “Free”. Our private Facebook page has locals posting free items for anyone to pick up and take home. It’s part of the charm that makes Knights Ferry special.

If you were wondering about the red metal mail slot container outside the Fire Department door, it is a place for retired American flags to be dropped off for proper flag retirement. The United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8k states “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” If you have an American flag, be sure to check if it has a tattering, staining, fading, tearing, or defacement. It may be time to purchase a new flag and drop your flag at the local fire station for proper retirement.

I hear the General Store and the Creamery are back open after a few weeks off! Even with the cold weather, rain, swift river flows, and the Bridge closure, we have had a few visitors in the area but the visitor traffic has definitely slowed until spring. Our local restaurants and shops depend on the community events and activities such as the Peddler’s Faire, the Civil War reenactments, the Car Shows, and the Pumpkin Roll.

Don’t forget Jim McCarthy’s services will be on Saturday, January 28 at 12pm at the Oak Grove Cemetery followed by a potluck reception at the Community Clubhouse.
