Highlighting some significant figures of early Oakdale, the ‘Once Upon A Tomb’ program will be back for a third edition in October, with six stories waiting to be shared.
This year’s cast, officials said, features an exciting mix of familiar faces and talented newcomers, all ready to “step into the shoes of Oakdale’s pioneers, visionaries, and unforgettable characters.”
Once Upon A Tomb will be staged on Saturday, Oct. 3 and the evening features guided tours, stopping at the gravesites of the historic figures, in the Oakdale Citizens Cemetery on East J Street. Tickets are $25 each, available through Eventbrite.
After the initial 5 p.m. tour that is designed for those with mobility issues that might need a little extra time covering the route, tours will leave on the half hour, at 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m., and 8:30 p.m.
Tours take from 45 minutes to an hour and there will be limited chairs available at the gravesites visited, available on a first come, first serve basis.
“Through engaging, first-person performances, visitors will experience the lives, struggles, triumphs, and legacies of the people who helped shape our community,” said officials.
Featured in this year’s cast, and the characters they play are, in alphabetical order:
Jacob Boss as Grover Seitz, a pilot, dreamer, and adventurer.
Elda Carmona as Lucinda Richardson, a hotel owner, survivor, and protector.
Gene Gilton as Joaquin Murrieta, a notorious bandit who had a heart without mercy, leaving fear in his wake and bodies in the well.
Ray Leverett as J.B Stearns, a founder, leader and community champion who was the first elected Mayor of Oakdale.
Donny Merchant as Daniel Stuart, who was a minister, farmer, pioneer, and survivor.
Cody Singh as Emma Coppetti, described as a strong-willed rebel, cook, and business owner.
Officials added that they are “incredibly grateful” to the dedicated cast and volunteers who are working to make the community event possible. The actors and actresses spend months researching and rehearsing in order to bring the historical figures to life, creating an experience that is both entertaining and educational for the audience.
It is, as organizers say, “the most unique event of the year, where enchantment meets entertainment, and mystery meets history.”
