The numbers of Kindergartners in the Oakdale Joint Unified School District have exceeded the projections, with 25 more students than expected, according to the district office.“We added another kinder class at Fair Oaks to alleviate some high kinder class loads across the district,” said Marc Malone, OJUSD Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.Letters were recently sent to parents of kindergartners in the district offering them the chance to transfer their children to the class created at Fair Oaks.Fair Oaks Principal David Kindred said that a number of parents have responded and there are currently 18 students in the newly formed class at his school. Those students are mostly all students who live in the Fair Oaks boundary but as Fair Oaks classes filled, a number of those kindergarten students had been sent to Cloverland Elementary School for overflow.“We did not want to force students to make a school change that is why we asked for volunteers,” Malone said. “Often times parents want to change for scheduling, daycare, etcetera.”A newly hired teacher has been brought on board to teach the class at Fair Oaks.Kindred reported that there are now six kindergarten classes at the school, three morning and three afternoon classes. He said that the number of classes is still in line, as there have typically been five to six kindergarten classes at the school each year, over the past few years.
