Homecoming is just days away, on Friday, Oct. 1, and students from each class at Oakdale High School kicked off Homecoming Week with the painting of windows on downtown businesses on Saturday, Sept. 25. The windows reflect the Disney theme with each grade levels’ individual Disney movie theme.

Senior Class President Kailey Fisicaro reported that each day this week at the high school focuses on raising student spirit by holding dress up days and two days with lunchtime activities. Monday’s dress up theme was Tarzan; Tuesday’s was Disney Tourist; Wednesday is Numbers where students wear jerseys; Thursday is the class themes where the freshmen represent Toy Story, sophomores represent Pirates of the Caribbean, juniors represent Hercules, and seniors represent Alice in Wonderland; Friday is Spirit Day where each class wears a particular color.

Fisicaro said that on Tuesday, the lunchtime activity was a scavenger hunt where the hunters had to find students dressed as Disney characters at different locations on campus. In order to complete the scavenger hunt, participants had to acquire the characters’ “autographs,” similar to how it occurs at the amusement park. The other lunch activity this week is a Rock Band competition in the school gym.

The annual Powder Puff football game happens tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 29, which pits the junior girls against the senior girls.

On Friday, Oct. 1 there will be a school-wide rally and then the Homecoming parade through downtown Oakdale will start at 1:45p.m. — featuring class floats, queen and princess candidates, cheerleaders, and the OHS marching band.

“The band will be marching and providing the crowd with sounds from the happiest place on earth as they perform ‘Disney’s Magical Marches,’ a medley of familiar two-steps to complement this year’s Disney homecoming theme,” said OHS band director Ross McGinnis.

The parade route will begin at the west end of the high school and head east on G Street in front of the campus. It will then turn left (north) on First Avenue, then right (east) on F Street through downtown, then right on South Third, and right (west) on G Street back to campus.

The Homecoming football game happens Friday night, Oct. 1 when the Oakdale Mustangs take the field against Kimball High School of Tracy. The junior varsity game kick off is at 5:15 p.m., while varsity kick off is at 7:30 p.m. at the OHS Corral. Homecoming royalty will be crowned at halftime during the varsity game.
