Candidate Forum Focuses On City Council Election

Three candidates who will by vying for two available seats on the Oakdale City Council in the November election have been invited to participate in an upcoming forum. The forum will be overseen by the League of Women Voters and LWV officials said the forum was requested by the local branch of the AAUW, American Association of University Women. Date for the forum is Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Candidates for council are incumbent Christopher Smith, local businesswoman Kayleigh Gilbert and student/security guard Benjamin Amaral. As of press time on Oct. 4, Christopher Smith and Kayleigh Gilbert had agreed to attend.

The format is provided by the LWV, with candidates having the opportunity for a five-minute introduction, one minute to answer each question, and a five-minute conclusion. Questions have been solicited from community members and cards will be passed out that night during the forum for written questions from the audience. Verbal comments are not allowed from the audience during the forum itself, but attendees are welcome to stay after the forum and ask additional questions of the candidates then.

The forum is open to the public and is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Oakdale City Council Chambers, 277 North Second Ave., Oakdale. Questions may also be sent ahead of time to JudyKropp40@gmail.com.
