Two games resulted in two wins this past week for the Oakdale High School varsity boys soccer team. The home field advantage came in to play as the Mustangs nailed down the pair of victories.

Oakdale (7-3-4) defeated Kimball (0-5-1) and Central Catholic (0-5-1) this past week. On Tuesday, Jan. 14 the boys hosted Kimball and blanked the Jaguars 6-0. Kaleb McDonald had three goals to lead the Mustangs. Joel Gonzalez, Kevin Camelin and Caden Frazee each had a goal as well. Each goal was off an assist. Ernesto Gonzalez, Alfie Harris, Caden Frazee and Julian Becerra each had one assist and Joel Gonzalez had two.

Thursday night, the boys hosted Central Catholic inside The Corral due to rain and poor field conditions.

“Changing the field location changed things in the game,” said Oakdale head coach Alfredo Quiroga. “Going from the natural turf of the field to artificial grass changes the speed of the ball and it took some getting used to. It was a necessary change though because our field was a swamp. So I appreciate the school to allow us to play in the stadium.”

Oakdale edged the Raiders 3-2. Central Catholic had a 2-1 advantage at the half but Oakdale rallied in the second half to earn the win. With less than 10 minutes remaining in the contest McDonald connected on the game-winning goal. He also had two assists.

“It was a big week for Kaleb. He was impressive this week and stepped up,” said Quiroga.

David Ayala and Caden Frazee each had a goal.

On Tuesday, Jan. 21 the Mustangs faced Manteca (2-4) following The Leader’s press time. On Thursday the boys will travel to take on East Union (3-1-2). This game is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Thursday night the boys defeated Central Catholic 8-0. The JV squad jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first half. Krause had two goals in the first half.
