Tennis Team Completes Regular Season On High Note

The Oakdale High School boys tennis team capped off the regular season with a 10-2 record and finished second overall in the Valley Oak League.

“This has been the best season for our program since 1997,” said head coach Grant Miller.

Oakdale won a pair of games this past week when they knocked off Manteca and Weston Ranch. Tuesday, April 16 the boys defeated Manteca 5-4. Caleb Poling won his set against Nick Pio 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. Zach Nielson also won in singles action as he took care of Julian Gosal 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. It was the doubles teams that helped power the Mustangs to the home win, winning all three matches. Shivam Mistry and Teo Diaz won in straight sets over Kevin Lin and Ryan Foo 6-4, 6-3. Chris Frye and Max Moore won their match 7-5, 7-5 over Ravpeet Grewal and Kierstan Melan. Wrapping up the day was the team of Hayden Hill and Aiden Rodrigues winning in three sets. They defeated Spencer Ogden and Jordan Navales 6-3, 6-7, 6-1.

Thursday afternoon the Mustangs swept the visiting Cougars. Liam Peters won 6-0, 6-1 to start the day for Oakdale. Frankie Dutra battled to a 6-3, 7-3 victory. Poling blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Mark Chavez won 6-2, 6-1. Jimmy Homer and Nielson also won their matches 6-0, 6-0. In doubles Diaz and Mistry won 6-0, 6-1. Frye and Moore won their match 6-0, 6-1. Hill and Rodrigues completed the day with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.

The VOL singles tournament was held on Tuesday, April 23 following The Leader’s press time. Thursday, April 25 the VOL doubles tournament will be held at Weston Ranch starting at 9 a.m.
